Snapchat, sports injuries, and vaping … are leading to a rise in teenage and young adult accidental fatalities.

Snapchat, sports injuries, and vaping … are leading to a rise in teenage and young adult accidental fatalities.

A public webinar hosted by Jesuit Sacramento, Bellarmine College Prep, and Jesuit Portland.

As we start to hear more stories about both legal and illegal prescription pill usage in the high school and college social scene, awareness is growing about the dangers of fentanyl, teen and young adult substance use, and a rise in teen and young adult fatalities due to fake pills.

All are invited to learn from and dialogue with a panel of experts on Thursday, March 18, 6:00 pm. This webinar is open to the public and will be co-hosted by administrators from Jesuit Sacramento, Bellarmine College Prep, and Jesuit Portland.

We are blessed to have this panel of experts with close, personal connections to our Jesuit institutions to share both personal stories and a wealth of information they have accumulated through their experiences and professional lives. Please see the panelist bios and additional resources tabs below for more information. All are invited to share the link and to register for the webinar by clicking the registration link above.

Henry's Uncle Coat & Blanket Drive

The final results are in! Henry’s Uncle was able to collect over 270 coats and blankets! We would like to thank the generous donations from everyone, including Rumpl and Sack Cloth + Ashes. We will be distributing the coats and blankets to local shelters during November and December.

Thank you all for your generosity!

Henry's Uncle will be holding a Coat & Blanket drive for the month of October (October 1-31) at all three WeWork Portland locations (https://www.wework.com/l/portland--OR)

Henry’s Uncle is a non-profit that was founded to raise awareness and to educate people about addiction and the opioid epidemic. Underlying these problems is a mental health epidemic that demands our care and attention, too.

As the fall and winter months approach and bring colder temperatures and more rain, we need to remember that over 4,000 people are homeless in Multnomah County. In a recent study, roughly 40% of those people suffer from a mental illness, and of that same population, 40% suffer from a substance use disorder.

At Henry’s Uncle, our mission is to end the stigma around substance use disorder, raise awareness about addiction and the opioid epidemic and to save lives. Please help us help our fellow Portlanders stay warm as the winter cold approaches!

What do we need: Henry’s Uncle is looking for new and or gently used coats, blankets, and sleeping bags.

Our goal: To distribute roughly 3,000 coats, blankets, and sleeping bags to local shelters and nonprofits in the surrounding areas.

How hard is that? If each WeWork member brings in just one coat, blanket, or sleeping bag during the month of October, we can achieve our goal!

Please help spread awareness so we can end the stigma around substance use disorders. These diseases should not be a death sentence.

Feel free to talk with us about our mission.

If you would like to make a donation instead, please visit www.henrysuncle.org.

What/Who is Henry's uncle?

On December 9, 2018, we lost a son, a brother, a friend, and 8-month old Henry lost his uncle. Henry's uncle, James Matthew Kilgore, was a gentle giant who could light up any room with his big smile and ridiculous sense of humor. Unfortunately, Henry's Uncle became another statistic of the never ending opioid epidemic.

Henry's Uncle, a nonprofit incorporated in 2019, was formed to help bring awareness and education to the dangers of opioid addiction and to the opioid epidemic that has plagued our country for over 20 years. Since 1999, over 400,000 lives have been lost due to opioid overdoses. Many have called it the worst man-made epidemic in history and it is time we help end this epidemic and raise our voices.

Addiction is not a moral flaw. It is a disease, and as such, addiction needs to be treated like a disease. The stigma of addiction needs to end so people who are suffering feel free to open up and ask for help instead of hiding in shame.

At this time, Henry's Uncle is not registered as a 501(c)3. Henry's Uncle expects to be registered by the end of 2019.
